“What’s up with Sichuan?” is a new live series from CGTN Nature about southwest China’s province and our first stop is the provincial capital Chengdu.
Chengdu is known for its spicy food, adorable pandas, and light lifestyle. The city also has lush vegetation and abundant flora. As you walk around, you can easily spot – and smell – beautiful flowers of all kinds.
On the way to our next livestream venue, our team passed through a narrow alleyway adorned with Chinese trumpet vines and tall bougainvillea.
Chinese trumpet vine (Campsis grandiflora), also known as the Chinese trumpet vine, is a woody vine native to the east and southeast of the country. In bloom, it is adorned with a spectacular spectacle of colors, mainly orange or red. In the Yangtze River Basin region, the flower is widely cultivated for ornamental purposes.
The big bougainvillea (Bougainvillea spectabilis) is one of the most famous flowers in southern China. It is a species of vine native to South America. It was introduced to Europe and other parts of the world after the 19th century. The plant is evergreen in areas with abundant rainfall throughout the year or deciduous in dry areas.
